Settling into farm life

We have now been on the farm for 4 weeks and it all seems so natural now. I don't blink twice when I see cows or sheep going up my street or flocks galahs and ibis coming home to nest. Mira still loves adventuring outside and is enjoying saying moo and yum yum when she sees cows... which means she is acknowledging that they are eating!!
we settle in for a nice story in the rocker near the fire......mmmm relaxing

collecting rocks and running to show us her efforts

New farm life

Moving to a small country town was something that we had been discussing for many years and we got serious when Mira was born. I wanted to be stable for a few months so we started with the really big questions like where and why.
We decided that being near to family was important and of course economics entered the equation. We saw only a few places but decided straight away that this little farm cottage on three acres was perfect. It has plenty of land to become sustainable, short walk to a town center, granny and g'pa close and plenty of relos in Melbourne (only 2.5 hours).
We have 2 big rain water tanks, septic system (going to change to greywater), wood heater, bottled gas and we walk to the post office to get the mail - although the postie has said that he will deliver if we put up a box on the main road. We have several lovely very large peppercorn trees that are providing some wood.
We have met some nice families already. The local primary school has 4o kids and is very family orientated.
On the day we moved in and for for three days it rained (what drought?)

Miranda will be 18 months old at the end of June!!!!! She is growing so fast and of course running and babbling as little ones do. She is happily eating some meals herself off a spoon. She loves this places and always comments on the cows, sometimes we have to carry her inside at the end of the day crying because she just wants to play more..... collecting rocks is a her fav past time at the moment.

Gray is documenting the development of the outside at his blog called 'Be the Change'.
So far he has started a chook shed and planted 4 citrus trees.

There is a creek 50m from the front gate on crown land with a great corridor of gum trees. The bird life is amazing and we get to see flocks of galahs come home around 4.30pm. There is also about 8 magpies often looking for scraps, blackbirds, willy wagtails, kookaburras, swallows, grass parrots in the peppercorns and some others I don't know. The surrounding country is flat, consisting of dairy farms and closer to the main river there are orchards. We have already enjoyed some fresh apples and delicious pears from the growers.
